Wisdom's Corner
Climb into His ArmsI remember times when I was a little boy that I went places with my parents. We would be going somewhere exciting. It might be to a farm where there were horses, cows, and other animals. It might be to another State to visit my parents friends. It might be to my grandparents' house.
But when we got there I would be frightened a large dog or by a bull. I would go to one of my parents and reach up to them. Please hold me!! My mother of father would lift me up from the ground and I would feel safe. Then they would walk toward whatever I was afraid of and speak to it. They would tell the animal to go away and leave us alone. They might even chase the animal away. I would feel very safe while in their arms.
God is our Heavenly Father. He will do the same thing for us in a spiritual way. Deuteronomy 33:27 says, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them."
This verse is specifically talking about how God would be with the Israelites when they entered the land of Canaan. But He will do the same for us today spiritually. If we will obey Him and do what He wants us to do, then He will lift us up in His arms and protect us from Satan. He will tell Satan to leave us alone. And in the end, He will take us home to Heaven where Satan can never bother us again.
This does not mean that we do not have to do something on our part. We must obey Him. And we must tell others about Him.
Now that I am an adult and have my own children, I am the parent that my children run to when afraid. And I am the one who lifts them up and tells the animal to go away. I learned from my parents what to do.
In the same way, by reading and studying the Bible we learn how to grow up and mature in our faith to God. We learn how to tell Satan to go away and leave us alone. But we still know that when it really gets scary, we can run to God and have Him lift us up in His arms.
