Wisdom's Corner
Stand in an Even Place

Have you ever tried to stand on the side of a steep hill? It can be very hard to do. Especially if there is grass and it is wet. Or if it has a lot of loose rocks. Your feet will keep sliding out from under you. And because you are on the side of a hill, you lose your balance very easily.

Some people learn to live on the side of a hill. They learn to walk without always losing their balance. But eventually they will even lose their balance and fall. Or one day their feet will slide out from under them without warning. They may fall to their death.

Our spiritual life is this way. If we try to live without God, it is like trying to live on the side of a steep hill. We will slip and slide a lot, until we learn to keep our balance. Some will fall to their spiritual death. Others will learn how to avoid falling but one day without warning they will still lose their balance and fall.

God does not want us to live on the side of a hill. He wants us to be able to walk easily through life. If we study God's word, the Bible, He teaches us how to properly live our spiritual life. He puts our spiritual feet on even ground.

"My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless the Lord" (Psalm 26:12).

We must do all that we can to learn about what God wants us to do. He will give us the wisdom to stay on even ground and never get in a place where we cannot keep our balance. And we will get help with that if we also go to worship with others who are trying to do the same thing. We should always assemble with the congregation of the Lord whenever possible.

So until next time, keep reading and studying your Bible. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
