Wisdom's Corner
Can You Eat Meat?

When you were born there were a lot of foods that you could not eat. One reason was that you had no teeth. Without teeth you could not chew food. And from our last Wisdom's Corner you know how important it is to chew your food.

Another reason you could not eat certain foods is because your body was not producing some of the digestive juices you need to digest those foods. Without those juices the food would just sit in your stomach and cause you pain.

You had to grow older to be able to eat certain foods. As you matured your ability to digest these foods developed. And now you can eat all kinds of food that you could not eat before.

The same holds true with God's word. At first, we can only handle learning certain things. We have to learn some very basic things about God. Then, as we learn those things and grow in our faith, we are able to learn more things. As we grow more and more in our faith and knowledge, we are able to learn more difficult things.

Hebrews 5:12-13 says, "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe."

We are like a baby when we first start learning the Bible. We can only drink milk (the simple food). But as we grow and mature, we can eat more difficult scriptures (strong meat). If we have had the Bible and can study it, we should go from drinking milk to eating strong meat. If we do not, then we are not becoming the person that God wants us to be.

Continue to study God's word. Learn all you can. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you. Until next time, get plenty to eat.
