Moth Eaten Cloth

Moth Eaten Cloth

"When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity." Psalm 39:11.

As we noticed last time, David is speaking about how God deals with those who do not follow his commandments. In the last issue, we saw that man may be like the moth. God will take his beauty away as easily as the moth dies.

The second thing that David could have been saying is that man is like the cloth that the moth eats. The moth lays eggs on a garment. When the baby moth is matured, a small shining insect comes hatches out of the egg. This insect forms a little house around itself with fibers from the cloth. Then the insect eats and eats. Soon the cloth is destroyed. Sometimes a whole dress can be destroyed in one night by several baby moths.

David may be saying that the disobedient person is like the cloth. The person may be destroyed very quickly just like a garment by the moths. The person may look healthy. The person may look fine. But without warning the person will be destroyed. This is exactly the way it will be in the Judgment. God will send all disobedient people to hell.

Do not be like the moth eaten cloth. Study the Bible. Learn what God wants you to do. Until next time, keep reading your Bible. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
