He Controls the RainIn 1 Kings 18 we read about the time that Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to bring rain. This challenge came about because King Ahab was very wicked. He did not follow God's laws but rather had followed the idol god, Baal.
Baal was the storm god. He was considered the lord of gods and creator of man by the Caananites. In Caananite religion, Baal was supposed to be the god of rain.
God had not allowed it to rain in the land for three years. Now he had sent Elijah to show King Ahab and all the Israelites that Baal was powerless. Elijah would show them that Jehovah God was the one with power.
You can read the chapter and see that the prophets of Baal were powerless to get their god to burn a sacrifice. But Elijah calls upon God and God does consume the sacrifice. Then it begins to rain in abundance. The Israelites then called on the name of God and repented of their evil ways.
God demonstrated that He is the true God. He alone can control the rain. Man should not follow false gods but instead should worship Jehovah God.
Until next time, keep reading your Bible. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
