Jesus and Psalm 69

Jesus and Psalm 69

We know that God's prophets many times foretold of future events. This means that they would say things that would not happen until many years later. They might be talking about their own situation but be stating things through the eyes of someone in the future. These things would be fulfilled by the person in the future.

In Psalm 69, David is asking for deliverance from his enemies. Some of the things he says are fulfilled by Christ. Verse 4 is fulfilled in John 15:25 when Jesus was hated without cause. Verse 21 is fulfilled in Matthew 27:34 and 38 when they give vinegar and gall to Jesus when he is on the cross.

We are told that verse 9 was fulfilled in Romans 15:3 when it says that all those who rejected God rejected Christ. Jesus quotes verse 25 in Matthew 23:38 in reference to Jerusalem.

I am thankful that Jesus fulfilled prophecy. I am thankful that God gave us these prophecies through David. This demonstrates that God is the One True God. And it demonstrates that Jesus is who He says he is--the Son of God.

Read your Bible. Learn all you can about Jesus. Learn all you can about our Great God. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
