Names of God and Psalm 23

Some time ago we had several issues about some of the names of God used in the Bible. It is interesting that the characteristics that some of those names describe are used in Psalm 23.

The Lord is my shepherd (v.1) is Jehovah Rohi. God leads me just like a shepherd leads his sheep.

I shall not want (v.1) goes along with Jehovah Jireh. Jehovah Jireh is The Lord Will Provide. God gives us spiritually everything we need. He provides us all the spiritual instruction we need in the Bible.

He leadeth me beside still waters (v.2) goes along with Jehovah Shalom. Jehovah Shalom means The Lord Send Peace. Being in the right relationship with God gives us the peace that passes all understanding. He can still the storms of life and make the strong waves into still water.

He restoreth my soul (v.3) is related to Jehovah Rophi. Jehovah Rophi means The Lord That Healeth. Reading from His word, the Bible, and going to Him in prayer refreshes my spirit. He can lift me up when I am hurting spiritually. He heals my spiritual wounds.

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness (v.3) goes along with Jehovah Tsidkenu. Jehovah Tsidkenu means The Lord Our Righteousness. If we are following God and obeying His laws, we are walking in the paths of righteousness. We will be righteous because He makes us so.

For thou art with me (v.4) is related to Jehovah Shammah. Jehovah Shammah means The Lord Is There. We can make it through the rough times of life because we know that God is with us.

In the presence of mine enemies (v.5) is seen in Jehovah Nissi. Jehovah Nissi means The Lord My Banner. We know we can overcome all spiritual enemies because we wave the flag of God. He is on our side.

It is amazing how God weaves great truths in and out of his scriptures. This is just another way to show that the Bible is the word of God. Keep studying it and get the wisdom of God. And if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
