¹ The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all who know the truth, ² because of the truth abiding in us that will also be with us for ever. ³ Grace, mercy and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, in truth and love.

⁴ I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, according to the commandment we received from the Father. ⁵ And now I entreat you, lady, not as though I were writing a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning, that we should love one another. ⁶ And this is love: that we walk according to His commandments. This - as you have heard from the beginning - is the commandment in which you should walk.

⁷ For many deceivers have gone out into the world, they who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. ⁸ Be careful that you do not lose what you* have worked for, but that you might receive a full reward. ⁹ Anyone going beyond - and not remaining in - the teaching of Christ, does not have God. He who remains in the teaching, has both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not bid him welcome. ¹¹ For he who bids him welcome, shares in his evil works.

¹² Having many things to write to you, I did not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come to you, and to speak face to face, that our joy may be complete. ¹³ The children of your elect sister greet you.
